How to get soft left voters to vote for you? Well, I wouldn’t start with May as leader — 6 Comments

  1. Corroboration for this argument comes from Scotland, where the Tories are picking up soft-Left voters angry with the Nats and disillusioned with Labour’s weaksauce reaction. Their Scottish leader, of course, being a fashionably married lesbian who isn’t actually in power and therefore can’t piss anyone off (except lifelong Tory Eurosceptics, and they don’t count).

I actually had to go and check right now to make sure I hadn’t imagined it… yes, Shettleston really does have a Tory Councillor.

  2. The irony is that what the country really seems to want right now is national socialism. It wants tax and spend and ‘Britain and the British first’ policies to go along side. A party that offered such a combination would clean up, it offers both sides of the political divide something. The old Left were always socially conservative, and the right would put up with higher taxes as long as there wasn’t actual nationalisation of everything and they could get hanging, flogging and National Service back.
