Quote of the Day

From Bloke in North Dorset, in the comments on my post on Diane Abbot’s son James Abbott-Thompson:

From my observations as a technical consultant for about 4 years, the fast-track scheme is about identifying women and ethnic minorities who might have potential and then testing them on different projects as a way to get more women and ethnics in to the upper echelons.

We had three of them through the project I was on.

Its not unusual for them to fall by the wayside.

  1. True. But falling by the wayside doesn’t mean what you may think. They may fail, time after time, but still get promoted.

Only those with the slightest glimmer of respect resign and despite them being disasters I’ve not heard of any being sacked yet.

  2. Oxford Uni has just lost a case in defence of its policy of compulsory retirement of (mainly male and white) old academic staff. It defended it in terms of freeing posts for the usual suspects.
